Kingfield Home-Based Professionals: Happy Hour Gathering x2 Today!

The Kingfield Home-Based Professionals kick off their monthly happy hour gatherings with a twist–they’ll be co-mingling with a happy hour organized by the Southwest Business Association (you may know them as Experience Southwest).

From 4:30 – 5:30, the Kingfield Home-Based Professionals will be gathering. From 5:30 – 6:30, other Southwest residents and business owners will be joining us for a happy hour meld!

If you’re able to join us at Terzo today, please RSVP on the KFNA Homebased Professionals LinkedIn Group discussion thread. Please note that if you are not already a group member, an admin will send you a LinkedIn message if you request to join the group so we can get you approved and added to the group.

Early morning with Elizabeth: “Wage Theft”

Join Elizabeth Glidden, 8th Ward Councilperson, on Friday January 22 for a discussion of wage theft. What is wage theft? Most simply, it is the failure to properly pay workers for time worked. Despite many laws that prohibit wage theft and direct how and when employees are paid, worker experiences with wage theft are not uncommon in Minneapolis and around the country.

We are pleased to welcome workers telling their personal stories of wage theft, members of Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en Lucha (CTUL). Staff from CTUL will present findings of the organization’s recent survey and report on conditions faced by low wage workers entitled “Confronting Exploitation.” You can review the report here [link to http://www.scribd.com/doc/289479974/FINAL-Confronting-Exploitation-CTUL-Report-on-Low-wage-Economy-English-Spanish-for-Print). We will also be joined by Michele Garnett McKenzie, Deputy Director of Advocates for Human Rights, to discuss that organizations’ work to prepare recommendations regarding needed worker protections and Mike Wilde, Executive Director of the Fair Contracting Foundation.

Please join us for a great discussion of wage theft – what is the problem, who is affected, and what are recommendations for the future.

Paint-a-Bowl for Kingfield Empty Bowls at The ColorWheel Gallery, 46th & Grand Ave S

Come paint-a-bowl at the ColorWheel Gallery for Kingfield’s February 4th Empty Bowls event, which benefits Nicollet Square Housing! We will be painting some of the 175 bowls created at the November Throwdown hosted by Fire on the Greenway! Read more about that event here.

This is a free activity for anyone that would like to paint a bowl; we do ask that kids under twelve years old participate with a parent. Bowls will be glazed and then used at the February 4th (4-8 PM at MLK Park) Kingfield Empty Bowls fundraiser for Nicollet Square, a 42-unit housing complex in Kingfield for youth ages 18-22 that have experienced long-term homelessness.

Ceramic artists can drop off their already made bowls to donate to this event (and at the paint another while you do so) with Tammy at the ColorWheel on this day too!

Dress warmly and watch the dawn sun rise and illuminate the memorial.

For details call the event host and organizer, Kingfield’s Judson Memorial Baptist Church at 612.822.0649.

Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛 An Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛
And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
