Lake Country Montessori School is participating in the 13th annual Empty Bowls Pregame Event (on Souper Bowl Sunday)

January 31, 2024 By Josh Martin

Lake Country School is a Montessori school serving ages 3-8th grade.  The school is a learning environment that fosters independence, critical thinking, and creativity within each child. They are a community that promotes diversity and inclusion, as well as respect and responsibility to self, to others, and to the earth.

Vonnie Kleinman, the Community Kitchen Manager at LCS recently contacted us and asked if they could once again (post CoVid) have students provide desserts, soup or bread for the Empty Bowls event.  Lake Country has a commercial kitchen that provides an opportunity for students to be exposed to cooking as part of the practical life experience program.   Of course  we took them up on  their offer and as a group, the students have decided to provide homemade biscuits and honey (from their own hives).

Thank you Lake Country.  We are lucky to have such a great learning environment in our neighborhood.  And even luckier to be able to sample Biscuits and Honey at the Empty Bowls Event!

Empty Bowls Event

Date:  Sunday, February 11 (Souper Bowl Sunday)

Time:  10:30AM-2:00PM

Where:  Judson Memorial Baptist Church (4101 Harriet Ave. Minneapolis)

March 5th Primary Presidential Election

January 31, 2024 By Josh Martin

On March 5th, Minnesota will participate in the presidential primary, more commonly known as Super Tuesday. We encourage you to vote in-person at your local polling place that day.

Who can vote in the presidential primary?

Any voter registered in Minnesota. Voters can pre-register through February 13, or register at the polling place when they vote. Note that voters must turn 18 years old by March 5 to vote in the presidential primary.

How will I be able to vote in the presidential primary?

Registered voters will be able to vote at their polling place on presidential primary day (March 5) or by absentee ballot starting January 19, 2024. A voter must request the ballot of the party of their choice (Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Republican Party of Minnesota or Legalize Marijuana Now Party). If a voter refuses to select a party, they will not be able to vote in the presidential primary.

Will other people know which party’s ballot I request?

A voter’s choice of party ballot will be recorded and is private data. However, a list will be provided to the chair of each major political party of voters who selected that party. How a voter voted on the ballot will be secret.

Volunteer for the March 5th Polling Party

January 31, 2024 By Josh Martin

KFNA will host its traditional Polling Party all day on March 5th at MLK Park. We will have tents outside the building and greet neighbors with coffee, tea and treats baked by neighbors like you. We’ll also have a volunteer crossing guard at 41st Street to help neighbors safely cross Nicollet, and fire pits burning to help keep everyone warm. It takes a small army of volunteers to greet, feed, warm and safely cross our neighbors all day, and it’s so much fun! See all the ways you can help with the Polling Party!
