Getting Ready for a Nicollet Avenue without Kmart and Welcoming Simpson Housing to Our Neighborhood

A Lyndale Neighborhood Association General Membership Gathering

Check-in will begin at 6:15 PM

Preparing for a Kmart-Free Nicollet

For close to 50 years we have lived with Kmart cutting off our main street from the center of the city. Now that the City of Minneapolis has both site and building control of the property, we know that this poorly conceived urban planning decision will be reversed. This project is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to engage all of you, the neighbors and businesses, who have been impacted by the decades long disconnection of Nicollet Avenue to identify your needs and share your perspectives on what you love and want to retain along the avenue, and in redeveloping a 10-acre parcel known as Kmart.  Come share your thoughts and dreams for Nicollet Avenue and learn about upcoming community engagement opportunities.

As Zion Church moves on, Simpson Housing Services moves in!

In early November, Simpson Housing Services will be moving their extended stay shelter operations to Zion Lutheran Church, 128 West 33rd Street  – this will be their interim site housing 66 individuals while construction is underway at their permanent location, on 28th Street at First Avenue.  Simpson has been operating shelter in South Minneapolis for over 40 years.  They look forward to bringing their service-rich shelter program to the Zion site – so that shelter guests will have uninterrupted service.  Come learn about Simpson’s work, the interim plan for the Zion site, and how you can get involved. If you have questions about this project please contact Steve Horsfield, Executive Director, 612-455-0841.

Kingfield Community Care Conversations

Meet at South Nicollet Action Center, 3537 Nicollet Ave

There is a lot to be stressed, sad, and angry about in our world right now – we need each other more than ever to connect and build community. Join Kingfield neighbors on September 20th as we head out to have deep, relational conversations around the neighborhood. We are building a team of neighbors who want to do regular outreach and community-building with neighbors over the long haul, to work on the housing, community safety, climate, and other issues that impact us every day.

Our goal is to build meaningful relationship with neighbors and to share upcoming events in the neighborhood, especially prioritizing community-building with renters. Every session includes a thorough training in deep canvassing, which is a method of conversation rooted in deep listening, and sharing relationally. For more info or to sign-up, contact KFNA Board President Katie Blanchard at .
