Mapping Prejudice Virtual Workshop

On Zoom, register here

Share the Facebook event with friends, link here!

Contemporary white residents of Minneapolis like to think their city never had formal segregation. But racial covenants did the work of Jim Crow in northern cities like Minneapolis. Mapping Prejudice is an initiative created to shed new light on these historic practices in the Twin Cities. We cannot address the inequities of the present without an understanding of the past.

This free event will be hosted on Zoom, please register here: https://forms.gle/wEHfAQCmrJQSyXU38 to receive the meeting link in advance of the event.  [Read more…]

Waves of Thankfulness for Healthcare Workers

‘Waves of Thankfulness’ is a postcard campaign to close out 2020 with a flood of thank you cards to local hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics…simply to thank each worker for their part in keeping our community healthy this year. You can send your own postcard to any clinic or healthcare worker you know, or pick up one of ours from a local coffee shop, attach a message of hope and care, and leave it in the drop box, and we will deliver them to local sites for you!
Join the Facebook event to know where to pick-up and Drop-off postcards. Or ">Contact KFNA to get locations as they become finalized.
Featuring the artwork of 8 local artists: Thanks to Rachel Breen, Angela Erdrich, Willa Flink/Saheli Patel, Camille Gage, Katie Heit Gardner, Brenda Johnson, Bridget Meyers, and Steven Mosborg!

Light It Up, Kingfield!

Light up your yard on Mondays from 5-7 PM and encourage your neighbors to also, to create a walk of wonder through our Kingfield Streets. Light a luminary, drag the fire pit to the front yard, string the holiday lights…the dark is coming and together we will keep it at bay!

The December 21st event is in conjunction with MPR’s Sing in the Solstice! Turn on your lights at 5 PM and tune in your radio to Classical MPR, MPR News, or The Current as they will all be broadcasting “This Little Light of Mine” for a giant, virtual statewide singalong. Whatever your singing ability, lift your voice to sing along from your Kingfield front yard!

The winter solstice is an important turning point to celebrate the light returning and longer days. Following Bring the Sing, Classical MPR and The Current will each broadcast two hours of solstice-themed programming so put in your ear buds and take a walk around Kingfield to see the lights, and fellow neighbors!

Be part of the Light Up Event by turning on your holiday lights or set out candles on your front walkway. They can be any sort of lanterns, glass jars (check your recycle bin, just add a candle!) or make your own out of ice. (Check www.kingfield.org in the coming days for luminary template ideas.) Then simply bundle up for a walk around your neighborhood to enjoy the glow.
