Kingfield Empty Bowls

Kingfield Empty Bowls is an annual event that brings the community together to share a meal of homemade soup and bread donated by local restaurants out of handmade bowls donated by local artists. At this event we accept a donation from all diners and all the proceeds from the event are given to support Nicollet Square, a housing option in Kingfield for formerly homeless youth that provides both efficiency apartments along with social/emotion and career support.

For a suggested donation of $20, you can eat dinner and take the bowl home as a reminder of the evening! We need your help as a volunteer too; sign up now to support a night of community and fundraising for Nicollet Square housing, a project of Beacon Interfaith Housing!

2019 MLK Day Celebration at MLK Park

The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration includes a keynote presentation, live entertainment, a tribute to Rev. Dr. King, and the presentation of the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board’s Living the Dream Award. The celebration is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate. Refreshments will be available following the program.

Living the Dream Award

The MPRB will present its “Living the Dream” award to an individual, business, or community group who has demonstrated dedication and distinguished service to the MPRB and the lives of Minneapolis residents. The honoree must act consistently with the teachings and examples of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as the award is intended to recognize those whose work embodies Dr. King’s message of justice for all and commitment to community.

Feeding the Dream Food Drive

The Celebration will mark the conclusion of the 10th Annual “Feeding the Dream” food drive. The food drive will take place at participating recreation centers throughout the city through January 21. The community service project was initiated in the Fall of 2009 and since then more than 10,000 pounds of donations have been collected and donated to families in need throughout Minneapolis.

Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛 An Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛
And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
