4-H + MPLS Parks Open House!

Hennepin County 4-H Youth Development has partnered with the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board for three summers now, and we are ready to deepen our partnership with a school-year, community-led 4-H Club hosted at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in South Minneapolis. We have the strong partnership and staff to oversee it, but now we need YOU, the community, to make it happen:

Community action is required for the creation and delivery of a 4-H Youth Development Program at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center.

Starting this fall, join Hennepin County 4-H and Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center staff in a 3-event open house series to learn all about 4-H, and what it takes from your community to build a successful and impactful program in the Kingfield Neighborhood and beyond.

Please join us for this first event! Bring the entire family and:

  • Create colorful SPIN ART
  • Make a GRAPHITE CIRCUIT with just a pencil, battery, and LED
  • Meet 4-H and Minneapolis Parks and Recreation STAFF
  • Get involved in LEADERSHIP opportunities to sustain a successful club
  • Make new friends and meet fellow COMMUNITY MEMBERS

And mark you calendars for the following open house events on December 7th, 2017 & February 8th, 2018.

Fall Colors at Lakewood Cemetary

Stop by this open house style event for tours and activities for history buffs and dabblers alike―including walking tours with Hennepin History Museum guides, self-guided tours via mobile app, and trolley tours of Lakewood. You can also see Lakewood-related artifacts from the Hennepin History Museum and local history books with new titles and catalogs from the Minnesota Historical Society Press. This event is also a great chance to see the one-of-a-kind Lakewood Chapel and new award-winning Garden Mausoleum.

KFNA + CFPA = a pizza pARTy!

(Yep, that means an outdoor art-filled pizza event at the wood-fired oven!)

Come join the Center for Performing Arts and its’ tenants (which include the Kingfield Neighborhood Association) for a slice, and live performances around the fire.  Visit the Facebook Event for details on performances, as they are determined!

Suggested donation of $10 per person. All ages welcome!

The oven will be hot, literally 800 degrees of hot, and we will be baking pizza for neighbors to sample. Live performances will occur around a bonfire throughout the evening. Pack a beverage (no bottles on site, please), and wander on down and enjoy the evening.

KFNA hosts regular oven events the 2nd weekend of each month until the snow flies, so be sure you are receiving the Kingfield weekly e-News—sign up on www.kingfield.org (right-hand side of the page)–where notices will be shared about upcoming oven dates, registration details, and the focus of each unique event. If you have questions about the oven, including how to volunteer, please feel free to contact KFNA at or 612.823.5980.

The 15th Kingfield Empty Bowls was a big success! The 15th Kingfield Empty Bowls was a big success! A HUGE thank you to the 750 people who attended, the many volunteers, partner nonprofits, donating restaurants and ceramics studios, accordionist Thor Anderson, neighborhood baking volunteers, and Judson Memorial for being the most gracious host. KFNA will be donating back a record amount to trustincmpls, Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, and tcfoodjustice. Stay tuned for updates on how to get involved for year 16!
Get hungry everyone - Kingfield Empty Bowls is thi Get hungry everyone - Kingfield Empty Bowls is this Sunday!
Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛 An Kingfield has always shown up for each other. 💛
And right now, that togetherness matters.

On Sunday, February 8, neighbors will gather for Kingfield Empty Bowls—sharing soup, choosing handmade bowls, and supporting local nonprofits fighting food injustice and increasing housing access in our community.

It’s about sharing space, being together, and taking care of one another in small but meaningful ways.

We’d love to see you there.
