Give to the MAX Day is November 16th!

November 14, 2023 By Josh Martin

Dear Kingfield Neighbor,

Get Ready for an Exciting Year Ahead with KFNA!

As your fellow Kingfield residents, we’re not just neighbors – we’re passionate volunteers leading the Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA), serving YOU!

Why We’re Here:

  • ???? To discover and support neighborhood projects that matter to you.
  •  To foster a close-knit community by connecting with you and others.
  •  To turn creative ideas into memorable community events with a dedicated team.

2022-2023: A Year of Triumphs and Challenges! Empty Bowls was a success hosted at Judson Church. Summer 2023 PorchFest went off without a hitch (but with hours of volunteer work.) The Garden Tour returned! And our Pollinator Pathway Project, Sap Tap & Pancake Breakfast and spirited Polling Parties highlighted our unity. We also started bringing in guest speakers to our monthly meetings to keep our neighborhood better informed on city and statewide efforts. However, this work underscored the challenges we face hosting the same events as before, after the City of Minneapolis cut neighborhood funding. Volunteers & Donors made this happen.

Why Should This Matter to You? KFNA does more than just bring us together. We’re at the forefront of:

  • Reducing crime and enhancing community safety.
  • Being the voice for city departments to communicate vital information.
  • Implementing neighborhood projects that benefit us all.

Despite the critical nature of our work and the reliance of our community partners on us, city funding has not returned, and the support of neighbors is more important than ever.

Our Commitment to Kingfield as the KFNA Board, we’re taking bold steps:

  • Raising awareness about our community challenges.
  • Investing more personal time to offset staff costs.
  • Exploring innovative changes, like collaborating with other neighborhood groups, to strengthen our future.

Rest assured, Kingfield’s spirit will continue to thrive, and we’re committed to maintaining the sustainability of our beloved events and addressing emerging community issues.

Make a Difference: Your Support is Key! If you cherish our neighborhood events, advocacy for safety and affordable housing, and value having a dedicated Team working for you, please consider donating to KFNA today. Every contribution, big or small, helps in keeping Kingfield vibrant and connected.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Community!

Warm Regards,

Your 2023-24 KFNA Board of Directors

Minneapolis City Council Ward 8 Candidate Q&A, October 2023

October 9, 2023 By Rob

Download full-length Candidate Q&A document (pdf)

This document was compiled by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) to educate voters about the four Ward 8 City Council Candidates and their ideas and experience towards issues related to housing, safety, budgeting, and governance. All candidates were offered the opportunity to answer all questions; if a question has been left blank, it is because a candidate chose to not answer it. If a candidate’s answer is truncated, it is because they went over the 150 per question word allotment. This election will be held with ranked choice voting; you can vote for up to three City Council candidates: https://vote.minneapolismn.gov/ranked-choice-voting/

Read the Ward 8 candidate responses here:

KFNA is a nonprofit, non-partisan neighborhood-based, community-led organization. We encourage all neighbors to exercise their right to vote and believe in the process of democratic elections and the value of civil debate. To learn even more about each candidate, please visit their websites and also read other Q&A’s produced by local organizations which you can access through the links or QR codes below.

Thank You Kingfield!

October 5, 2023 By Josh Martin

We’d like to give a big “Shout Out” to all of our Kingfield neighbors who attended the Ward 8 Candidate Forum for City Council!

Those of you who were there know that it is needless to say that we were PACKED!

From what we were able to tally, over 110 people attended the Forum and out of that, approximately 70 attendees identified as being part of the Kingfield Community!

Thank you also to those of  you who signed up for our annual Polling Party! We still have several spots open and we look forward to seeing your name on the list!

With Community,

The KFNA Team

Ward 8 City Council Candidate Forum Tonight

October 3, 2023 By Josh Martin

Did you know there are elections this year? All Minneapolis City Council positions are on the ballot. The Kingfield neighborhood is located in Ward 8, which is currently represented by Council Member Andrea Jenkins. Council Member Jenkins is seeking re-election and there are three other candidates: Soren Stevenson, Terry White, and Bob Sullentrop.

There will be a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 3 from 7-8:30 PM at MLK Park, followed by a meet and greet with candidates. All candidates are invited to participate. The forum will also be livestreamed and the recording will be available for later viewing. The event is moderated by League of Women Voters Minneapolis and cosponsored by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association, the Lyndale Neighborhood Association, the Field Regina Northrop Neighborhood Group, Community Power, Ayada Leads, and Make Voting a Tradition (a project of the Native American Community Development Institute).

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Kingfield Neighborhood Association cannot and does not endorse particular candidates or political parties, but encourages civic participation provides opportunities for neighbors to become informed about the election.

Kingfield historically has very high turnout and hopes to continue that tradition in this election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. All Kingfield residents vote at MLK Park. The neighborhood association will continue its tradition of a nonpartisan “polling party” at the park to greet voters and hear feedback from residents.
