KFNA April Board Meeting

On Zoom

The KFNA Board meets monthly to govern the nonprofit neighborhood association. Neighbors are welcome to join the monthly meeting to hear what the board is working on, or can also simply attend the beginning of each meeting. Each board meeting kicks off with Community Forum, a chance for anyone to bring a question or concern before the board of directors. If you have an item that you think will take more than 2-3 minutes please contact to discuss the item and see if there is room on the regular agenda.

Grand Avenue: Walk, Talk and Learn

Meet on the Corner of 40th & Grand (or if you are running late, feel free to join the group as they walk south to 46th Street)

Join the KFNA Redevelopment Committee on Thursday April 14 at 7 PM for a walking tour of Grand Avenue. Hosted  with representatives of Minneapolis Public Works Department, the purpose of this walk is to ask questions and learn about the new features of our newly reconstructed Grand Ave.  City staff and project engineers will be there to talk through the design, look at trouble spots, and answer questions about the project.

The walk will begin at the corner of 40th & Grand at 7 PM and finish at 46th & Grand at about 8:15-8:30 PM as the street lights are coming on.

Hosted by the KFNA Redevelopment Committee. Contact Chris DesRoches, KFNA Board President with questions at

Kingfield’s 1st Annual Community Pancake Breakfast

—Made Even Better with Kingfield’s Very Own Maple Syrup!

(Stay tuned if dining will be indoors or out!)

Bring the family down to the park to watch the sap boil and enjoy a good ol’ fashioned pancake breakfast, served with sausage (pork), fruit, juice and coffee! Learn how maple syrup is made—and enjoy some of Kingfield’s own syrup from 2021 on your pancakes! Proceeds from the breakfast benefit both KFNA and MLK Park programming, partners in this community Sap Tap which is in its 4th year of seasonal celebration!

Tickets are available here! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1st-annual-pancake-breakfast-at-mlk-park-sap-boil-tickets-277049842537

So what is a Community Sap Tap? Neighbors register at the park to pick up a tree tapping kit and instructions on how to tap their personal maple (or box elder!) tree. Then all the participants bring the sap to the park and we collectively boil it down to syrup, and then share the results! Want to get in on the fun and share the collective work? You can still register for a kit here, while supplies last!

Kingfield Community Sap Tap

Shared Maple Sap Collection, Boiling, & Product

AND a Community Pancake Breakfast!

March 12 and/or March 19—stay tuned for details but get your sap collection on now!

For $20, residents will get a kit that can be used to tap sap from any privately owned tree in the maple family (including box elders). Register at https://apm.activecommunities.com/minneapolisparks/Activity_Search/123174

Are you a repeat Tapper with your own kit? Register to participate in the boil for only $10! Register here: https://apm.activecommunities.com/minneapolisparks/Activity_Search/123175

We have set aside two Saturdays for sap boils outdoors at MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet, at which participants and other curious residents can watch the transformation of the watery liquid into a concentration of sweet syrup. The all-day boil-downs are an opportunity to bond with other neighborhood residents and learn more about how sap is turned into syrup. Depending on exactly what day the sap runs, we will host boils on one, or both, of these dates!

Register and pick up a Tree Tapping Kit from the front desk of MLK Park. (Note, trees must be larger than 10 inches in diameter). Kit includes spline(s), tubing, 5 gallon food grade collection bucket, and how-to instructions. Participants will be able to sign up for a shift of syrup making, and will get to take a jar of syrup home with them too! A program of the Kingfield Neighborhood Association and MLK Park.

Upon registration for this program, participants agree to maintain social distance (6 feet) at all times and adhere to the current Minnesota state face covering mandate. (Face covering exceptions may apply to certain MPRB activities.) Failure to comply will result in removal from the program.
