Thank You Kingfield!

October 5, 2023 By Josh Martin

We’d like to give a big “Shout Out” to all of our Kingfield neighbors who attended the Ward 8 Candidate Forum for City Council!

Those of you who were there know that it is needless to say that we were PACKED!

From what we were able to tally, over 110 people attended the Forum and out of that, approximately 70 attendees identified as being part of the Kingfield Community!

Thank you also to those of  you who signed up for our annual Polling Party! We still have several spots open and we look forward to seeing your name on the list!

With Community,

The KFNA Team

Ward 8 City Council Candidate Forum Tonight

October 3, 2023 By Josh Martin

Did you know there are elections this year? All Minneapolis City Council positions are on the ballot. The Kingfield neighborhood is located in Ward 8, which is currently represented by Council Member Andrea Jenkins. Council Member Jenkins is seeking re-election and there are three other candidates: Soren Stevenson, Terry White, and Bob Sullentrop.

There will be a candidate forum on Tuesday, October 3 from 7-8:30 PM at MLK Park, followed by a meet and greet with candidates. All candidates are invited to participate. The forum will also be livestreamed and the recording will be available for later viewing. The event is moderated by League of Women Voters Minneapolis and cosponsored by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association, the Lyndale Neighborhood Association, the Field Regina Northrop Neighborhood Group, Community Power, Ayada Leads, and Make Voting a Tradition (a project of the Native American Community Development Institute).

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Kingfield Neighborhood Association cannot and does not endorse particular candidates or political parties, but encourages civic participation provides opportunities for neighbors to become informed about the election.

Kingfield historically has very high turnout and hopes to continue that tradition in this election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. All Kingfield residents vote at MLK Park. The neighborhood association will continue its tradition of a nonpartisan “polling party” at the park to greet voters and hear feedback from residents.

Power of Pop Kicked Off at the Kingfield Farmers Market

September 18, 2023 By Josh Martin

Over 70 kids, ages 4-12. took advantage of the new Power of Produce (PoP) Club, funded by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association this past Sunday. This dynamic pilot program aims to engage and inspire children, opening up a world of food exploration and promoting healthier eating habits.

PoP Club participants receive a weekly $2 token to use on an array of fresh fruits, vegetables, and even food-producing plants. By placing the purchasing power in their hands, the program encourages wise food choices while fostering a deeper connection between our community and the local food system. Alongside the token-based system, the Market is crafting an engaging lineup of activities that include food tastings, kids’ activities and a farmers market scavenger hunt!

Join us September 24th at the Kingfield Farmers Market for another PoP market! Together, we’ll cultivate a healthier future for our children, our community, and our local farmers.

Empty Bowls 2024 Planning Kicks Off

September 12, 2023 By Josh Martin

The 13th Annual Kingfield Empty Bowls event will take place on “Soup-er Bowl” Sunday, February 11, 2024. Once again, we welcome our community to come together to fight hunger and homelessness in our area while sharing a delicious meal and lively conversation.

  • We look forward to working again with our restaurant community who have been very generous in their support donating soup, bread, dessert and coffee.
  • On the bowls side of the equation:  We NEED bowls. We are seeking potters, connections to potters, and educators at a school with pottery students, or even poetry collectors.

The first planning meeting for the 2024 event is Wednesday, October 4, at 6:30 PM at Judson Memorial Baptist church  (41st and Harriet Ave. S.). If you want to donate or participate, simply reach out to me at .

–Lori Olson, Kingfield Empty Bowls Chair
