KFNA Announces Its Intent to Hold an Online Community Vote to Move NRP Funds.

Voting Will Occur Online May 31-June 14, 2023; funds will move from Green Residential Projects, a strategy line where programming has not been put into place. watch this publication and the KFNA website at kingfield.org for details and a voting link.

Attend a Meet-and-Greet on May 31st to get to know both the Kingfield Farmers Market & Raices Sagradas and learn about their plans and needs for each program.

Butter Bakery, 3700 Nicollet, 5-6:30 PM Wednesday May 31st.

RSVP Here!

At the urging of the City, KFNA established partnership with two community organizations and supported them in applying for City funds to pilot new programs in our neighborhood, one serving youth and one serving Spanish-speaking neighbors. Neither organization received funding through the City of Minneapolis Partnership Program.

After working with these programs for months, KFNA strongly believes in each of these pilot programs and the needs that each fills in our community. KFNA announced at their annual meeting on May 10th their intent to hold a community vote to hold an NRP Plan Modification vote to reinstate the strategy to “develop or expand programming provided to resident children, families, youth, seniors, and minorities in the neighborhood”, and to move funding to support both programs in the following way:

  1. Kingfield Farmers Market to pilot a Power of Produce (PoP) Club: PoP is an incentive-based program that engages children between the ages of 4 and 12 to eat fresh vegetables. Participants receive a weekly $2 token to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and food-producing plants, which not only empowers them to make healthy food choices, but also supports local farmers.  budget $10,000 KFNA NRP funds for a single season pilot project.
  2. Raices Sagradas to start a free, Spanish language mental health service & referrals at 38th and Pleasant. Raices Sagradas provides a similar service in Global Market, and feels the proximity to the Harvest from the Heart Food Shelf at 38th and Pleasant will allow them to reach more community members struggling with trauma and provide culturally appropriate mental health support. budget $40,000 KFNA NRP funds for a 9-month pilot project.

If supported by the community, a vote will occur by the KFNA Board at their June 14th Board Meeting to enact a Plan Modification to move funds. The meeting will be held at 7 PM at MLK Park, 4055 Nicollet.
