Thank you to the Kingfield and Lyndale History Hounds!

January 5, 2023 By Sarah

Thank you to the dozen volunteers who have been sorting paper and scouring old news stories about our neighborhoods these past two months.  These History Hounds are helping to clear out the file cabinets, so that both Lyndale and Kingfield’s historic documents can be included in the the collection that the Hennepin Library Archivists are putting together. When completed, this collection will show the breadth and value of neighborhood actions and activities and how it has shaped Minneapolis over the last 30 years.

Our History Hounds are a talented bunch, but many also have a history of their own in archival documentation, or they are simply self-proclaimed trivia-history nerds!

Want to get involved? There is more room at the table (or more correctly, in the basement file-room) for a few more History Hounds. Just contact Nicole at to set a time to come dig through a box of papers!

Calling All Volunteers to Come Grow Food and Connections in Our Community Gardens!

December 22, 2022 By Sarah

Both Kingfield and Lyndale Neighborhood Associations support communal growing land where volunteers work together to share knowledge, build community, and grow food for our local food shelves. Contact to get involved with either Pillsbury Farm, at 31st and Pillsbury, or The Donator Garden at MLK Park, at 40th and Nicollet in 2023.

Both neighborhoods will also be helping to organize volunteers to plant native pollinator gardens at multiple other sites in each neighborhood as part of the Pollinator Pathway Project. You can see the garden maps for each of these sites in the windows of Butter Bakery Café, 3700 Nicollet, through the end of this year. If you are interested in getting involved in this project fill out the contact form found here!

Calling All Volunteers to Support Lyndale’s Adult Education Program!

December 21, 2022 By Sarah

Start your year off on the right foot and give back to your community! Lyndale’s Education Program is in need of volunteer support for our English as a Second Language (ESL) and Digital Literacy (DL) classes.

Volunteers are needed for morning and evening ESL classes, and afternoon Digital Literacy classes. You could volunteer 1 day per week, or more. In this role you can expect to lead a small group of students and provide 1-on-1 student support. We are also seeking one additional morning and evening volunteer that will be in charge of weekly registration and testing of ESL students; for this role, some conversational Spanish is a necessity.

Our program will be starting to use a new curriculum called “English Unlocked”, created by Literacy Minnesota in January. LNA will be organizing trainings for volunteers in January including a curriculum overview and instructions on how to use it to extend learning and engagement with students. Please contact , LNA’s ESL Teacher & Volunteer Coordinator, to be notified of upcoming training dates and to discuss how you might like to be involved in this program. She will be happy to follow up with you separately to discuss your availability, skills, and interests and get you scheduled, and trained!, as a volunteer for 2023!

Calling All Volunteers to Support Kingfield’s Winter Events!

December 20, 2022 By Sarah

The Kingfield Board of Directors is working on their 2023 engagement plan and event list and while the entire calendar is not available yet, we do know that there is a commitment for hosting our traditional Winter events: Kingfield Empty Bowls and the Community Sap Tap/Pancake Breakfast.

Kingfield Empty Bowls will be held on Sunday February 12, and celebrated as part of a broader “Souper Bowl Sunday”. If you are interested in helping out at the event simply contact and you will be sent the volunteer sign-up sheet after the first of the year. Tasks involve serving soup, cutting bread, providing kitchen support, dishing up desserts, greeting neighbors, collecting donations, as well as assisting with set-up and clean-up. This event supports Nicollet Square, an affordable Kingfield housing option for youth who have been homeless or aged out of foster care, as well as KFNA’s affordable housing advocacy and educational work.

Kingfield Empty BowlsThe Community Sap Tap/Pancake Breakfast is a little harder to pin the date down on because it will happen when the sap starts flowing (some time near the end of March to the middle of April). This newer event is held in partnership with the Park Board, and is focused on teaching people how to collect and process maple sap, as well providing an incentive to gain this knowledge by serving it on the pancakes! Just email to be put in touch with the volunteer sap-tap and/or breakfast team.

Reminder: Today, join us for the Inaugural Kingfield Holidazzle!

December 10, 2022 By Sarah

Join us for the Inaugural Kingfield Holidazzle!

Saturday, December 10th   5:30 PM

Honoring Jim and Joanne from Royal Ground coffee shop

In the spirit of good fun and community building, let’s dress in lights and holiday cheer and have a mini Holidazzle parade (for those not familiar with the winter Minneapolis celebration, watch this video   https://tinyurl.com/bdfam8yp).

In addition to the fun, let’s take a moment to thank Jim + Joanne, the owners of the Royal Grounds coffee shop. After 12 years of incredible service to our community, Jim and Joanne are moving on to a new chapter.  While the shop will be left in good hands, let’s gather together and toast these stalwarts of our neighborhood.

Here’s the plan:

  1. Dress up your clothing, bike, stroller, etc. in LIGHTS, wear a COSTUME, and bring your smiles (see photo below).  Dress warmly as we will be outside.
  2. Bring your own cup of coffee, cocoa, or libation of your choice (the coffee shop will be closed).
  3. Meet at Royal Grounds at 5:30 p.m. to raise a glass + toast to Jim & Joanne
  4. Leave the coffee shop at 6 p.m. for a parade down Grand Avenue to 46th
  5. Hang with your neighbors afterward at Tap Society or Cafe Ena or go home

Kids, grown-ups, + pets are all welcome!
